Sun4Health app at NHS Highland’s RD&I annual conference

“Can an app support a healthy vitamin D level in health volunteers?” The study sponsored by siHealth has been presented by Rowan Temple at NHS Highland’s RD&I annual conference.

Head of Technology Innovation Rowan Temple presented the results of an 8 month, 100 volunteer pilot study of siHealth’s Sun4Health app at NHS Highland’s RD&I annual conference. The conference focused on the future of healthcare and technologies that could make a difference to delivering better, personalized, healthcare and wellbeing.

The study presented by Rowan Temple, sponsored by siHealth, is titled “Can an app supports a healthy vitamin D level in health volunteers?”. The study validates the use of a smartphone app for managing a healthy vitamin D level through solar exposure. The Sun4Health mobile app is aimed to support users in avoiding vitamin D deficiency thanks to sun exposure, i.e. by efficiently balancing vitamin D synthesis due to sunlight and its risks like sunburn.

In the spring of 2021 siHealth had launched this observational study led by NHS evaluating the Sun4Health mobile app. It’s based on our satellite based HappySun Technology, stemming from the support by European Space Agency (ESA) and the collaboration with UK Space Agency and STFC / UKRI (Harwell Campus Clusters) during the last years.

The event was engaging and an important networking opportunity with the research, development and innovation activities in the NHS Highland.
